We released the Wheatley Census 1.0 on XX June, 2025.
At this time the database included records for the following editions:
- 1773 London First Edition
- 1786 Philadelphia Second Edition (First American Edition)
- 1787 London Third Edition (Poems on Comic, Serious, and Moral Subjects)
- 1787 Philadelphia Fourth Edition
- 1789 Philadelphia Fifth Edition
- 1793 Albany Sixth Edition
Copies of these editions will be added to the census continuously. Further editions will be added to the census in batch updates at later dates.
Known Technical Issues with 1.0 Release:
- Search: the search function is not completely operational with the 1.0 release. Searching by WC number, Location, and Provenance Name is functional. The search features for Keyword, Specific Features, Year, and STC/Wing Number are not functional at this time. The STC/Wing datapoint is a holdover from the Shakespeare Census architecture and will be modified or removed in a future update.
- List of Verified Copies: The About page includes a link to an automatically-updating report of all currently unverified copies. This is not currently functional and will be addressed in a future update.
